Steve Dolby – Leisure Kit

Steve Dolby is retiring from being our BQA Leisure Kit coordinator, the BQA would like to say a Big Thank-You to Steve for organizing and sending out the Leisure Kit for as long as I can remember … it must be at least 10 years! He’s done a great job for us and we shall miss his reliable service.

Steve and Clair have been members of Lincsquad from its early days, and have helped make the club it is today. Steve enjoyed Quadrathlon, and although he took a while to master a K1, once he got the hang of it he had some excellent results and went on to represent ‘Team GB Quad’ at the World and European Championships and then went on to complete several Ironman Triathlons! He helped promote the BQA and was Chairman of Lincsquad giving 100% commitment and ensuring everyone was happy … I dont think I have ever seen him without a big smile …. maybe just once during a capsize!

Many of you will know Clair from her Mobile Cupcakes ‘n Coffee Stop, she has replenished many a quadrathlete and triathlete with her scrummy cakes and hot drinks after their races! Not to be out shone by Steve’s athletic ventures she also put on the lycra and represented Lincsquad at the National Relays and went on to do the Great North Run.

I have no doubt they will be missed by all us and their Lincsquad Friends!

But its very exciting times ahead for them both, they have just moved to Porthmadog, North Wales to run the Tudor Lodge B&B. There is no doubt you will be greeted with big smiles and wonderful hospitality, and going by the bacon butties they used to serve the breakfasts will be AWESOME!! We wish them all the very best and I’m sure when word gets round to who’s running the place there bookings will be full. So remember if your over that way, racing or training in the beautiful Snowdonia  Tudor Lodge is the place to stay! Tudor Lodge

GOOD LUCK THE DOBBERS …. and hope to see you soon

Grant for K1’s for Shrewsbury Canoe Club.

Quadrathlete ‘Phil Holden’ has been working with Shrewsbury Canoe Club to get a grant from Sport England for K1’s to help encourage and improve flatwater paddling at the club.

The grant has now been awarded and they will shortly be getting 6 new K1s and paddles to help establish the flatwater paddling group.  They hope to introduce kayakers and newcomers alike, to the K1 racing boats, and hopefully introduce members into our sport of Quadrathlon.

Gill Otto from Shrewsbury C.C. was the instigator of the wonderful Shrewsbury Sprint Quad race and Phil Holden has take over this year, working along side SYTri. They are both continuing to share their passion and spread the word of ‘Quadrathlon’. Phil races most of the BQA Quad Races, and Gill having been organizing for the past few years has decided to put back on her ‘Quad Lycra’ and will be racing the Deva Divas Ladies Only Quad in Chester! Both these athletes love to encourage others and would be only to pleased to see you at the Canoe Club. So If your in the Shrewsbury Area and wish to improve your flatwater paddling please dont hesitate to get in touch with the Canoe Club and book into one of their sessions.

Stay Warm & Keep Motivated

Hope all you Quadrathletes are keeping safe ‘n sound, and coping with the ‘Beast from the East’! It may of been a frustrating couple of weeks having not been able to jump on our bikes, paddle in our kayaks or even find the motivation to go out running in this cold icy blast of air and snow we’ve been getting! But fear not, were all in the same boat ….its important we stay safe and we make the start line of our Events planned for the New Season! The better weather I’m sure will be here soon (we hope), in the mean time treat yourself to an extra swim session, stick to the turbo, maybe an extra class at the gym, try one you’ve not done before, stretch strength or enjoy a ‘Hot Yoga’ session – would most defiantly recommend that!

Plan your races, I’ve entered a few whilst peering out at the snow flakes … does wonders for the motivation and I’m sure this will help me focus as soon as the ice melts! So take a look at our Events below and let the Race Organizers know your coming! In the mean time Take Care out there, stay safe, stay warm and double up on those THERMALS!

Last year 6 GB Athletes went on the camp, Lisa and Stefan gave us a fantastic variety of training sessions! Swimming sea and pool sessions, kayak sessions, bike technique & speed drills, hill reps and long rides. Running Track transitions and an amazing run up a volcano! We also had plenty of interesting theory including Life-Kinetics, Sports psychology and a Beach Team Cup competition! Our ‘Veteran Bodies’ coped with the pressure really well, considering we were averaging 5 hours of training every day, our minds were most certainly pushed beyond our comfort zones!  The Island and the people are wonderful, along with the great hospitality and the huge amounts of lovely food we consumed!
